Plant brownish to yellowish red in colour, up to 16 cm in height, attached by small discs; thallus bushy with irregularly branched, cylindrical axes; lower branches cylindrical, not attenuated at the base (Figs. a, b): upper branches attenuated below, elongate clavate, swollen at the apex and showing apical depressions, one or two branchlets arising from the depressions (Fig. c); cortex 1 - 2 layered, medulla with large central cells (Fig. d); cystocarps scattered all over the thallus, rostrate.
