Plants dark green in colour, succulent and somewhat stiff, erect and profusely branched with cylindrical axis and branches; branches larger at the bases, small spinous tapering above, axiferous (Figs. a, b); medullary core of axial hyphae persists up to 10 cm below the tip (Fig. c).
An important carragenophyte. CSMCRI has developed an integrated method for simultaneous production of nutrient rich liquid sap (liquid fertilizer) and a residue rich of kappa-carrageenan (U. S.
