Plants purplish red or brownish red in colour, slender and filamentous, up to 15 cm in height, solid, terete with cylindrical axes, regularly and dichotomously branched, tapering gradually towards the tip (Figs. a, b); thallus composed of rectangular peripheral cells, and paranchymatous cortex and a central strands and densely packed thick walled cells (Fig. c).
