Plants dark brown in colour with conical holdfast and spirally arranged terete, smooth, 4 - 8 cm long primary branches, primary branches covered with secondary branches of 2 - 12 cm long, secondary branches crowded with linear leaves; leaves thick, 1 - 2.5 cm long, 1 - 2.5 mm broad with entire to distantly denticulate margins truncate to obtuse apices (Figs. a, b); vesicles smooth born singly on short petioles or receptacular stalks, apiculate, apices cylindrical or leaf-like, male and female receptacles 2 - 5 mm long simple spindle shaped; tuberculate, often bearing leaves at the tips.
