Plants dark to blackish brown in colour, 20 - 30cm tall, elastic, gelatinous, irregularly branched, growing as loose festoons and attached by basal minute discs (Fig. a); branches present only on the lower portion of the main axis, upper portion poorly branched (Fig. b); thallus multi-axial with a central medulla and a peripheral cortex; long assimilatory hairs present at the apical region.
