Plants light to dark brown in colour, up to 15 cm tall, 12 cm in breadth, basal portion forming rhizomatous discs; thallus divided into broad lobes (Figs. a, b), three cells thick (Fig. c), hairs developing all over the thallus as concentric zones, the reproductive structures occurring in the central parts of the thallus between the two hairy zones (Fig. d). It grows as dense mats in large rock pools in intertidal zone.
