Plants dark red to pinkish red in colour, 5 - 10 cm tall, attached by a rhizoidal base; main axes multifariously branched giving a pyramidal appearance; upper parts of the axes and branches covered with soft pseudolaterals which occur in whorls (Figs. a, b); basal regions totally devoid of pseudolaterals, axes and branches corticated right up to the tip, pseudolaterals 2 - 3 mm long, dichoto-mously branched fasciculate.
