In India the first systematic aerobiological survey was started in Calcutta by Cunningham in the 1880s of the 19th century (1873). Kasliwal et al.
(1959) started such studies in Jaipur, Rajasthan. In Delhi Shivpuri et al.
(1960) conducted such studies. Later on similar studies were conducted all over India by various researchers. Nair et al. (1986) have summarized pollen count as reported from various cities in India in their publication entitled 'Airborne pollen, spores and other plant materials of India' which was the outcome of an all India coordinated project initiated in 1980.
