The Effect of Altered Environmental Factors Interfering with the Connection Between Light Photosynthesis and Leaf Growth Dynamics

A wide range of environmental factors affects leaf and root growth dynamics via direct or indirect alteration of photosynthetic energy gain. Two factors that are investigated in the context of global climate change and its effect on managed plant systems are atmospheric CO2- and O3 concentration. While increased CO2-levels generally ameliorate photosynthesis and primary production, increased amounts of ozone in lower atmospheric layers decrease plant performance via oxidative stress.
