It is possible to see that in all vegetation types the productivity rises initially with diversity, but then decreases, i.e. the highest biomass production is achieved in species-poor areas. This figure is only partly comparable with Fig. 3.4.1, as this is not an experiment but based on observations of vegetation at different sites that have different uses, fertility and water availability.
