Island Biogeography Steady-State Theory

According to Preston, MacArthur and Wilson

Preston (1962), but mainly MacArthur and Wilson (1963, 1967), built on previous knowledge of establishment and number of species on islands.

They started from the premises that:

• Fewer species occurred on islands than on the same area on the mainland;

• The number of species on islands increased exponentially with the size of the island;

• The pools of species on the mainland supply propagules;
