A main polysaccharide (aloemannan) isolated from Kidachi aloe extract in a pure state showing a single symmetrical peak in the sedimentation diagram (S20,w = 1.55 S) was proved to be a partially acetylated P-D-mannan. The molecular weight was calculated to be approximately 15,000 daltons by equilibrium ultracentrifugation and aloemannan inhibited the anti-tumor activity (inhibition ratio: 48.1%) against the implanted sarcoma-180 in ICR (Institute of Cancer Research, Philadelphia) mouse by intraperitoneal (i.p.) route at a concentration of 100mg/kg for a 10 days administration. No body change was observed (Yagi etal., 1977).
